Over the years, we have been fortunate to photograph many religious ceremonies honouring cultures and values. Today, we are sharing the wedding ceremony of a super adorable and kind-hearted couple: Dominic and Kolsum. Their Islamic Nikah ceremony was meant to be intimate, so they opted for Sapphire Restaurant in Hednesford.
Memorable Islamic Nikah Ceremony
The couple’s family members welcomed us as we arrived at the Sapphire Restaurant. Their gestures were so heartwarming! The Asian wedding restaurant offers intimate settings for any kind of celebration and a wide range of traditional and contemporary dishes. The restaurant was transformed into a stunning backdrop with gorgeous floral decorations, drapes, and many candles. The intricate decor elements looked breathtaking, creating a charming and beautiful ambience.
As the ceremony time approached, Kolsum arrived with her brother wearing traditional Islamic attire covered in intricate beadings. She looked stunning, adorned with golden jewellery, including mang tika on the forehead, gorgeous necklaces, and matching bangles on both hands. Her hands were decorated beautifully with exquisite Henna designs representing the Islamic Nikah ceremony. We loved these designs so much that we took the time to capture the intricate details of the unique art. Besides the beauty of Henna, Kolsum looked absolutely breathtaking in the “lehenga” with a matching net jacket. The groom, Dominic, looked dashing in this formal wear.
The family members of the bride warmly welcomed Dominic and greeted him with smiles and hugs. Shortly after, the Imam arrived and explained the significance of the Islamic Nikah ceremony. During the wedding ceremony, men and women were seated in separate groups. While all women took their place around Kolsum, the men were sitting with the groom. Dominic and Kolsum made promises to each other. They exchanged the word “qubool” thrice to complete the ceremony before signing their nikahnama. As UK wedding photographers, we were delighted to experience this traditional Islamic ceremony and how their families honoured their cultural values. It was alive and full of joy and love!
Lively and Joyful Affair
As the ceremony concluded, the reception was lively and full of fun. Dominic and Kolsum were made to sit together with a gorgeous arc of floral decorations in the background. Afterwards, the bride and groom received gifts from their loved ones. Another highlight of the traditional Islamic ceremony was the exchange of garlands between the bride and groom. The couple exchanged garlands and presented each other with traditional drinks. There were many words of congratulations and Mubarak, meaning “blessed” by the guests.
The evening was followed by cake-cutting and a sweet ring exchange ceremony amidst cheers and applause from everyone present. As the delicious food was laid out, guests took turns offering food lovingly to the newlyweds. Capturing this unique tradition was so much fun and love.
While the guests enjoyed mingling and catching up at this Staffordshire wedding venue, we stepped outdoors to capture a few portraits. One of our favourite shots was an intimate shot of the couple beneath the gorgeous veil that matched the outfit. As UK wedding photographers, we truly adore such natural and full-of-love moments.
Dominic and Kolsum’s Islamic Nikah ceremony was absolutely wonderful. We are grateful to have been witnesses to such a beautiful occasion, which highlighted the richness of cultural diversity. Congratulations once again, Dominic and Kolsum. We wish you a lifetime of happiness!
