Mansfield Traquair is a historic weddings venue in Edinburgh, often described as the city's answer to the Sistine Chapel, with walls and ceilings covered in extraordinary hand-painted murals.

Mansfield Traquair is Edinburgh's answer to the Sistine Chapel, a former church covered wall to ceiling in hand-painted murals. Cinematic, atmospheric and unlike anywhere else in the city, top of our Edinburgh wishlist.

We have not had the privilege of filming a wedding here yet, but it sits firmly at the top of our Edinburgh wishlist. The scale, the colour and the sheer drama of that interior would make for cinematic coverage unlike almost anything else we can think of, and we would love the chance to work here.

Getting to Mansfield Traquair

Mansfield Traquair is right in the heart of Edinburgh, so getting there is straightforward. Your closest train station is Edinburgh Waverley, about a 15 minute walk or a short taxi ride away. If you're flying in, Edinburgh Airport is roughly 30 minutes by tram or taxi. Parking directly at the venue is very limited, so we'd strongly recommend leaving the car at your hotel. The surrounding streets have some permit restrictions, so don't chance it. For the evening, pre-book a taxi or use the Uber app. Edinburgh is well served, but demand gets busy later on, so sort your ride home before the night gets away from you.

Getting married at Mansfield Traquair is a genuinely extraordinary experience. The entire interior of this former church is covered in intricate hand-painted murals, giving it an atmosphere closer to a great European cathedral than a typical wedding venue. It is often called Edinburgh's answer to the Sistine Chapel, and that comparison really does hold up when you step inside.

How does the décor and lighting at Mansfield Traquair affect wedding photography and videography?

A venue like Mansfield Traquair presents a wonderful creative challenge for photographers and videographers. The richly painted walls and vaulted interior create layers of colour and depth that very few venues can match, and the dramatic, cinematic quality of the space lends itself beautifully to both photography and film. Working with the existing light sources and the texture of the murals is something we find genuinely exciting as a creative team.

Is Mansfield Traquair easy to get to for guests travelling to Edinburgh?

Edinburgh is one of the most well-connected cities in Scotland, served by its own international airport and a major mainline railway station, making it straightforward for guests travelling from across the UK or further afield. Mansfield Traquair sits within the city itself, so guests staying centrally will find it very accessible, and there is a good range of accommodation options across the city to suit different preferences.

What makes Mansfield Traquair stand out compared to other Edinburgh wedding venues?

While Edinburgh has no shortage of impressive historic venues, Mansfield Traquair occupies a category of its own. The floor-to-ceiling hand-painted murals make it unlike anything else in the city, creating a sense of occasion that is hard to replicate. For couples who want a venue with genuine artistic and architectural character, it is a remarkable choice.

What style of wedding photography and videography suits Mansfield Traquair?

The cinematic, atmospheric interior of Mansfield Traquair suits a documentary-led approach that lets the venue speak for itself, capturing the scale and drama of the space as the day unfolds naturally. That said, the richness of the murals also rewards more considered, composed shots, so a blend of candid storytelling and thoughtful portraiture tends to work beautifully here. We tailor our approach to each couple and each venue, and a space like this gives us a great deal to work with.
