Big Day Productions wedding photography

The Chimney House is an intimate wedding venue in Sheffield's Kelham Island district, set within a beautifully preserved Victorian cottage full of exposed brick, warm candlelight and genuine character.

The Chimney House is a beautiful Victorian cottage venue in Sheffield's Kelham Island, full of warmth, brick and character. Made for an intimate celebration, right up our street.

We are completely taken with what this place appears to offer couples who want something personal and full of soul rather than a grand ballroom affair. The textures alone, aged brick, flickering light, cosy rooms, feel like a photographer and filmmaker's dream. We haven't had the pleasure of shooting a wedding here yet, but it is very much on our wish list.

Getting to The Chimney House

Sheffield is your nearest train station, sitting around 3 miles from The Chimney House in Kelham Island. From there, a taxi takes roughly 10 minutes and costs about £8 to £10. Leeds and Manchester are both easy connections if you're travelling from further afield. For those flying in, Sheffield City Airport closed years ago, so Leeds Bradford Airport is your best bet, around 40 miles away with good taxi and bus links into the city. There is limited on-site parking, so carpooling is genuinely worth organising in advance. Street parking nearby is available but can be patchy on weekends. For the evening, book your taxi home early. Local firms like Sheffield Taxis or City Taxis are reliable, but they get busy late on Fridays and Saturdays, so pre-booking saves a lot of standing around in the cold.

Frequently asked questions about The Chimney House

What is it like to get married at The Chimney House?

The Chimney House offers something genuinely special: a Victorian cottage in Sheffield's Kelham Island neighbourhood, full of exposed brick, warm lighting and intimate charm. It suits couples who want a celebration that feels personal and atmospheric rather than grand and formal. The character of the space does a lot of the work for you, making every moment feel considered and heartfelt.

Is The Chimney House well suited to wedding photography and videography?

Intimate venues like The Chimney House are some of our favourite spaces to work in, because the natural warmth, texture and light that comes with a Victorian cottage setting creates a beautifully layered backdrop. The brickwork, candlelight and cosy interiors lend themselves brilliantly to both photography and film. Smaller guest lists also mean more genuine, unguarded moments, which is exactly what we look for.

Can we book Big Day Productions to photograph or film our wedding at The Chimney House?

Absolutely, and we would love to be part of a wedding here. The Chimney House is exactly the kind of venue we are drawn to: full of character, intimacy and visual depth. Just get in touch through our contact page and we can have a chat about your day, what you are looking for and how we can help capture it.

Where is The Chimney House and how do guests usually get there?

The Chimney House is located in Kelham Island, one of Sheffield's most distinctive and characterful districts, within easy reach of Sheffield city centre. Sheffield has good rail connections from across the north and midlands, and the city centre itself has a range of accommodation options for guests travelling from further afield. It is worth letting your guests know the Kelham Island location in advance, as it sits just outside the main city centre grid.

How many guests can The Chimney House accommodate for a wedding?

The Chimney House is designed for intimate celebrations, so it works best for couples who want a smaller, more personal guest list rather than a large traditional reception. We would always recommend checking directly with the venue for their current capacity and layout options, as these details can vary depending on the style of event you are planning.

Does The Chimney House have any restrictions that might affect photography or videography on the day?

Most intimate venues like The Chimney House have their own guidelines around suppliers, timings and use of the space, so it is always worth asking them directly when you book. We are experienced in working within venue guidelines and adapting to different spaces, and we are happy to liaise with your venue coordinator ahead of the day to make sure everything runs smoothly.
