Wedding photography and film at The Shard

London

Big Day Productions wedding photography

The Shard is a city weddings venue in London, hosting couples high above the capital with panoramic views stretching across the entire city skyline.

The Shard offers weddings high above London with views stretching across the whole city. Sleek, modern and unforgettable, exactly the kind of London venue we'd love to shoot at.

We think it represents one of the most visually striking settings a couple could choose, all clean lines, glass and light on a genuinely iconic scale. The elevated perspective alone would make for extraordinary photography and film, with London spread out as a living backdrop in every direction. It is absolutely a venue we would love to bring our cameras to.

Getting to The Shard

London Bridge station is your best bet, just a 5 minute walk from The Shard. Trains run frequently from across London and beyond, so it is easily the most straightforward option for most guests. If you are flying in, Gatwick is your closest major airport, with direct trains into London Bridge taking around 30 minutes. Parking nearby is limited and expensive, so we would strongly recommend leaving the car at home. The congestion charge zone applies during the day too, so it is simply not worth the hassle. For the evening, black cabs are plentiful around London Bridge. Uber and Bolt both work well in this area too.

Getting married at The Shard means exchanging vows high above the London skyline, with the city spread out beneath you in every direction. It is a genuinely dramatic and modern setting, a far cry from a traditional country house wedding, and one that feels truly special and unique. The sleek, contemporary architecture creates an atmosphere that is both intimate and grand at the same time.

How does the light and setting at The Shard affect wedding photography and videography?

Shooting at height in a glass-clad building like The Shard presents a wonderful creative challenge, with natural light flooding in and the London cityscape providing an extraordinary backdrop at any time of day. The modern interiors offer clean lines and a polished aesthetic that works beautifully on camera. We always assess the light conditions and angles carefully at any venue, and a location like this one excites us enormously from a creative point of view.

Is The Shard easy for wedding guests to get to?

The Shard is one of the most recognisable landmarks in London and sits in a very well connected part of the city, close to London Bridge station which serves both underground and mainline rail routes. Guests travelling from across the UK or from abroad should find it straightforward to reach, and being in central London means there are plenty of transport options nearby. It is worth sharing clear travel information with guests in advance, as central London can be busy.

Where do couples typically stay or celebrate after a wedding at The Shard?

The Shard is surrounded by a wealth of options for continuing your celebrations, as it sits in a vibrant part of central London with hotels, bars and restaurants within easy reach. Many couples choose to stay nearby to make the most of the city on their wedding night, and London's transport links mean guests can get home or to their accommodation with ease. We would always recommend exploring what is local to the venue when planning the flow of your day.

Does The Shard suit couples who want a non-traditional wedding feel?

The Shard is a perfect fit for couples who want something contemporary and distinctly urban rather than a classic countryside or heritage setting. The architecture is bold and modern, and the panoramic views over London make it feel like nowhere else in the world. If you want your wedding to feel like a true reflection of city life and a love of London, this venue is hard to beat.
